On behalf of veterans and military spouses who deal with PTSD, and people with mental illnesses, I just want to say that Bradley Cooper touched my heart last night. Big time.

Thank you, sir.

“Charlie Boy”
Charlie boy, don’t go to war, first born in forty - four
Kennedy made him believe we could do much more
Ohhh
Lillian, don’t hang your head, love should make you feel good
In uniform you raised a man, who volunteered to stand
Ohhh
Play the bugle, play the taps and
Make your mothers proud
Raise your rifles to the sky boys
Fire that volley loud
News was bad on upland ave., metuchen mourn our loss
Sons rebelled, while fathers yelled, and mothers clutched the cross
Ohhh
Play the bugle, play the taps and
Make your fathers proud
Raise your rifles to the sky boys
Fire that volley loud -
dont fucking cry
Nope, I’m gonna cry.
I just have like..a continent in my eye, or a maple tree.
this is perfect
But the last one,
Crying(via freshpressedstardust)

A Random Act of Kindness
A woman up the street, just a few houses down, knew through someone in our little bitty town that my husband is deployed, and they are retired military. She won 1st prize in the pie baking contest that I won 3rd prize in just before Halloween, so our street boasted the best pie makers. She came to the house (me, embarassingly a hot mess with a hoodie and shorts and a living room covered in blanket and pillow forts) with a present for the boys (Uno and a Hot Wheels set) because when she was a younger military wife in a non-military community where she knew no one (even after a year of living there), a man that had never spoken to her in the neighborhood brought her son a Lego set for Christmas, and she wanted to do the same. She gave me their names, address, and phone number and told me that I’m welcome to stop by and chat whenever. So incredibly sweet. I think I’ll have to bake something to take over sometime. I love good people. ♥

Letter I recieved from my clinic regarding TRICARE
“Dear Client,
You are receiving this letter because your health insurance is through TRICARE. At the end of October, your therapist received a letter terminating his/her status as a TRICARE authorized provider effective November 1st, 2012.
Earlier this year, TRICARE Management Activity (TMA) implemented revised eligibility requirements for all TRICARE Certified Mental Health Counselors and Supervised Mental Health Counselors. Even though your therapist will continue to see other clients at [the clinic] as a state licensed Qualified Mental Health Professional, your therapist was determined by TMA to no longer meet TRICARE’s eligibility requirements.
This is a very important matter to us. Because of our proximity to [a military installation], we provide services to many veterans and military dependents. We have been working behind the scenes with TRICARE to seek an exception that would allow you to continue to see your therapist. After weeks of unsuccessful efforts, we have accepted the fact that there is nothing we can do at this time t preserve your relationship with your therapist.
[The clinic] will not be paid by TRICARE for any of the services provided to you by your therapist between November 1 and December 31, 2012, and we are not allowed to bill you for these services. I’m sure you understand why we cannot continue this arrangement....Because this action by TRICARE has eliminated 18% of our TRICARE therapists, it is possible that we will not be able to facilitate an in-house referral in as timely a manner as you need.
[The clinic] will be communicating with general public and with numerous public and military officials regarding this matter and the impact these new eligibility requirements have on access to service for our veterans and military dependents…”
Because that’s what the mental health facility in the military installation area needs - LESS eligible therapists, and ending patient-therapist relationships that have been established. This isn’t just for mental health - my mother’s oncologist, even though the office accepts Tricare Prime, is no longer an authorized oncologist.
WTF is happening to our health care?

Probably the best thing that has ever come out of Hollywood has been the miniseries Band of Brothers. I’m of course a bit biased, being an Army brat, an enlisted veteran, and the wife of an Airborne infantryman. But those things aside, the cast, cinematography, storytelling - everything - is the most impressive thing I’ve seen. Many military productions that have been made have been riddled with incorrect uniform and situations that just wouldn’t happen. This historical theatrical telling of Easy Company’s experience during WWII intermixed with interviews from the men themselves, the men of Easy Company who lived this story, is accurate and eye-opening. Watching this series every year allows me to reflect on what makes America great, as well as restores my hope in Hollywood knowing that there are some filmmakers and producers that actually care. The devil is in the details, and Steven Spielberg being the kind of person that spares nothing in anything that he makes does not disappoint with Band of Brothers. Every time I watch it, I wonder if Americans (especially the younger ones) remember what the generations before have been through, and what our infantrymen are going through now. My heart breaks during the interviews, and I always shed tears of sorrow and respect for these great men and this great generation.
As a sidenote, if you want insight to what the Airborne infantry has to deal with during the Afghanistan conflict, watch the documentary by Sebastian Junger and the late Tim Hetherington, Restrepo. It is on my husband’s battalion, the 2nd of the 503rd, 173rd Airborne Brigade based in Vicenza, Italy. While living with our guys and making the documentary, Tim created a photo book of the men called ‘Infidel’ and Sebastian wrote a book called ‘War.’ I’ve never seen such unbiased truth, and I’m glad they were the men who told our boys’ stories.
This is a post I made in my ‘fangirl’ tumblr and I thought it would be appropriate here as well.

Because of events of late, I can’t even make it through the intro by Kris Kristopherson without the tears beginning to fall. Today we remember our 173rd soldiers, honoring them with remembrance of their sacrifices over the decades, and pray for the safe return of those still in harms way in Afghanistan. Sky Soldier.
